Bottom line: Season Six of "Modern Family" is still funny, but it is becoming clear to see that the formula is wearing a bit thin. I know that the show likely pulls in great numbers for ABC and execs are probably loathe to make any major changes, but if the status quo continues the show is going to steadily erode. Right now, they are following a very convention sitcom formula (play the jokes until they dry up), but it is starting to show some cracks. Even if not all of those risks succeed, I think the show would benefit from at least trying. Thus, what I would really like to see from "Modern Family" in coming season(s) is for the show to take a few more risks with the younger characters in the show. However, they pretty much "are what they are" at this point, with their characters more succeeding on great dialogue/writing than on potential areas for growth. "Modern Family" will always have the wonderful characters of Phil (Ty Burrell), Claire (Julie Bowen), Gloria (Sofia Vergara), Jay (Ed O'Neill), Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), and Cam (Eric Stonestreet) to anchor the show. I have seen a bit of character growth from these characters, but again not as much as I was hoping for. They still insist on Haley basically being the "dumb pretty one" and Luke being a lame-brain. Haley (Sarah Hyland) and Luke (Nolan Gould) are kind of having the same character-writing issues. That worked for a long time, but there is so much potential just waiting to be explored. Though the actress playing Alex, Ariel Winter, has turned into an absolute bombshell in real life, the show creators still insist on dressing her down and having her play the super-nerd. For pretty much two whole seasons now, the show hasn't allowed some of its younger characters (the ones essential to the show's continued success) to grow into their new roles. The fifth season, however, was the first campaign I gave less than five stars, and to be honest this one is probably more like 3.5. I guess that is a compliment towards the writing/acting more than anything. What always amazed me about the show was how it was able to do essential the same type of humor for four years without showing a dip in quality whatsoever. In the early seasons of "Modern Family", what really made the show great was learning about all the different characters and their quirks. Phil is starting to feel the teenage cold shoulder from Luke, and with Andy hanging around a lot recently as his apprentice, he easily steps in as his new right-hand man. However, there is one major flaw in the show that is really holding it back at this point: the characters (especially those in the Dunphy clan) need to be allowed to grow. 'Rash Decisions' is the thirteenth episode from Season 6 of Modern Family, it aired on February 4, 2015. It may not be as smartly hilarious as it once was, but more often than not it still succeeds. on ABC.After six seasons of being on network television, "Modern Family" is still a funny show. "Modern Family" airs on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. Inspired, Alex spins one of Haley's stories and claims it as her own. Alex thought that she was prepared, however, she hears the admissions officer talking about how all of the candidates are lacking in personality. They start to bicker, and Haley insults Alex's outfit. Meanwhile, Haley drives Alex to her admissions interview at Princeton, and Alex is nervous about her chances of getting in. Manny still thinks that maybe Stella is to blame for giving him the sniffles, but Jay has already left to get the dog back. Gloria is upset since her face cream is ridiculously expensive. Later, the doctors find out that Joe isn't allergic to Stella-he's allergic to his mother's face cream. Lily doesn't like the dog so much since she thinks that Stella is bothering her cat, Larry. Jay gets very emotional when he sees Cam and Stella bonding. Mitch is baffled at how concerned Jay is about the dog and reminds him about the time when Jay brought him to camp and that he "barely stopped the car" before dropping him off. With a heavy heart, Jay leaves Stella with Cam and Mitch all day, and leaves a lot of instructions on how to care for the dog, which includes "no chicken bones", "lots of belly rubs" and that Stella should be walked three times a day. Everyone in the family knows how attached Jay is to his pet, and also how much Gloria resents the dog. When Phil thinks Luke is giving him the cold shoulder, Andy becomes Phils new right-hand man. On "Rash Decisions", Jay and Gloria's baby, Joe, starts sneezing and sniffling, and Joe's doctor and Gloria think that the Joe might be allergic to Stella, Jay's dog. Last Wednesday on "Modern Family," Joe's doctor and Gloria suspect that Joe might be allergic to Jay's dog, Stella, and Jay is faced with a very tough decision, and Haley and Alex bicker as Alex tries to get into Princeton.
